The best instrument for your child is the one they will want to play and practice on. Some children only want shiny instruments, some children like instruments that have some history or cool factor. Bring your child to Jas's shop so they can look at what is available for themselves...and it gives you a chance to visit the cool shop!
In a word: Service. Jas is local, experienced, fast and guaranteed. Rental companies are not local, repairs take at least a week or more, and you don't get the chance to see a very cool shop. With simple repairs, you and your child can often watch your instrument being repaired.
Jas is almost always 'open' when you need him to be open. While he does not keep standard posted hours, he is 'on call'. You can always call to make an appointment and/or often come right over.
Parents sometimes wonder if their student will be stuck owning an instrument that only holds their child back? Unlike some rental companies, Jas Linford sells instruments that have stood the test of time and will be more than adequate for your student to continue in Band for many years. When you are ready to upgrade, Jas will help you choose an instrument for your child and can also arrange a buyback for the old instrument.
If you see an instrument for sale at one of these places, and are unsure about whether you should purchase it, give Jas a call. He can usually give you suggestions over the phone about different things to look for, and whether the price is within a reasonable range. Jas is always available to consult with you.
Usually any major brand (Armstrong, Conn, Besson, Blessing, etc.) are good instruments. Try to avoid Chinese made student instruments, as they usually do not stand the test of time. If it seems awfully cheap, there is a reason why.
